By 1929 how many African-Americans had settled in new Northern metro areas ?

Answers

Answer 1
The Great Migration was the relocation of more than 6 million African Americans from the rural South to the cities of the North, Midwest and West from about 1916 to 1970. Driven from their homes by unsatisfactory economic opportunities and harsh segregationist laws, many blacks headed north, where they took advantage of the need for industrial workers that arose during the First World War. During the Great Migration, African Americans began to build a new place for themselves in public life, actively confronting racial prejudice as well as economic, political and social challenges to create a black urban culture that would exert enormous influence in the decades to come.

Answers

Answer:

Joan was born amidst a war between England and France. This war was called the Hundred Years' War. The Hundred Years' War began in 1337 and ended in 1453. The war began when English King Edward, son of the late King of France's sister, claimed he should inherit the French throne but was unable to do so because his cousin Philip ended up becoming the French king. Philip's France began attacking Edward's English territories within its borders, so Edward started the war to keep control of England's lands in France.

During the early part of the war, England dominated France. It wasn't until Joan joined the battle that France began to experience major victories. In 1429, after an examination by high-ranking Catholic clergy, Joan convinced the king to allow her to accompany an army to Orleans. She arrived dressed in men's battle attire. She immediately began to reform the troops by requiring them to go to church and to confession. She disallowed swearing and looting and harassment of the civilians in the area.

She and her troops took one English fortress after another. The victories at Orleans were due to an aggressive attacking behavior not typical of French commanders. As French troops attacked the English at a church named Saint Loup, she rallied them by carrying a French banner. Although she placed herself in danger, it is thought she generally took this role rather than fighting with a weapon.

After the church was under French control, they went on to take other English strongholds. Joan led the troops to overcome a monastery named Bastille des Augustins that controlled a south approach to two English strongholds, Les Tourelles and part of the Orleans bridge. The English were overrun and abandoned these posts. After this victory, France went on to reclaim other areas under English command.

With Joan's help, the French fought another victorious battle called the Battle at Patay. French troops attacked an English relief force before their longbowmen were prepared. Joan attempted to take control of Paris but was wounded. After this, a truce was signed with the Duke of Burgundy to keep a temporary peace between France and England.

At the conclusion of the truce, Joan had another vision that she would be taken prisoner. This prediction came true when she was captured on May 24, 1430, defending a town against an English attack. She was severely outnumbered. She was captured and ransomed to the English.

What did President Gerald Ford mean when he said “our Constitution works”? How did the U.S. Constitution effectively resolve the crisis caused by President Nixon?

For the answer to the question above, li thinks it means that a republic is a government of laws, that have been going over and printed out and you cannot argue with it. but men can argue and fight and not makeup such a great republic. In many countries as politically polarized as our own, the resignation of its leader amid scandal after winning re-election by an electoral landslide might have triggered insurrection if not civil war, but the wise leaders whose collective genius framed our Constitution had anticipated even this unthinkable event. Nixon accepted the consequences of his actions with such grace as he could salvage, his vice-president took over the reins of government as provided for by law, and even those who might have been less than completely satisfied with this result accepted it and got on with the nation's business pretty much as they had done before.

While Xenophon was an Athenian who greatly admired the Spartans, Pericles was the leader of Athens in the Peloponnesian War against Sparta (431-404 BCE).

Describe the perspectives of Pericles and Xenophon. For each of them, identify a piece of evidence in the text. For example, you might find a loaded word or a statement that favors one city-state’s way of life. Keep in mind that you are reading works in translation, and a loaded word in translation may not exactly represent what was written in Greek.

Answers

Answer:

each of these poleis (plural form of polis) possessed its own form of government, law-code, army, cults of patron gods, and overall culture that set it apart from the other city-states. While the two most famous poleis, Athens and Sparta, controlled vast territories of farmland, most city-states were quite small, with a population of just a few thousand citizens. Furthermore, the Greek world in antiquity encompassed much more than present-day Greece, extending as far as Italy in the West and the territories of modern-day Turkey and Ukraine in the East.

Explanation:

Pericles, as the leader of Athens during the Peloponnesian War, had a perspective that favored Athenian democracy and its way of life.

One piece of evidence supporting this is found in the Funeral Oration attributed to Pericles, where he extols the virtues of Athenian democracy and highlights the importance of citizen participation in government. Although the exact words used in the Greek text may differ in translation, the overall tone and emphasis on democratic values are evident. Pericles emphasizes the idea of equality among citizens, the freedom to participate in public affairs, and the significance of Athenian institutions and culture.Xenophon, an Athenian historian and philosopher, had a contrasting perspective, as he greatly admired the Spartans. While there is no specific text provided, it is known that Xenophon wrote extensively about Sparta and its military-focused society. His work "Constitution of the Lacedaemonians" is a notable example where he praises Spartan virtues and their unique way of life. Xenophon presents a favorable view of Spartan discipline, military prowess, and the role of education in shaping Spartan citizens.Pericles favored Athenian democracy, emphasizing its principles and values, while Xenophon admired the Spartan society, highlighting their military strength and disciplined way of life. These perspectives can be gleaned from their respective works and the themes they emphasize in their writings.

The table below compares the economies of two countries.

Country A Country B
Main crop is wheat Main crops are wheat, corn, and potatoes
Primary product is flour Produces a variety of products including flour, processed foods, and bio-fuels

Which statement is accurate based on the information in the table?
Country A's economy is more diversified than country B's economy
Country B's economy is more diversified than country A's economy
The economies of both countries are equal in level of diversification
The economies of both countries can be described as single resource

Answers

Answer:The statement that is accurate based on the information in the table is that Country B's economy is more diversified than Country A's economy.

Explanation:The table shows that Country A's main crop is wheat and its primary product is flour. In contrast, Country B produces a variety of products including flour, processed foods, and bio-fuels and has main crops that are wheat, corn, and potatoes. This suggests that Country B has a more diversified economy than Country A.

A area or nation's usage of a wide variety of economic activities or differences in its economic status are referred to as economic diversity or economic diversification. Hence option B is correct .

What is diversified Economy ?

Diversification is a tactic used to promote healthy economic development and growth.

A corporation that uses diversification as a business strategy expands rather than specialises by entering a market or field that is unrelated to its core industry. Some business executives think cash should be distributed so as to limit exposure to any one specific asset or risk. Others, however, contend that in the current economic climate, specialisation is the only viable strategy.

Diversification has historically been attempted to lower the risk of relying on just one or a few income sources - not putting all your eggs in one basket.

Commercial organisations can avoid seasonal or cyclical variations by diversifying their product lines or service offerings to meet a range of demand cycles. It can occasionally lead to rapid growth.

If a local government wants to lower taxes, how would it need to balance its budget?

by increasing public goods and services
by reducing public goods and services
by agreeing to go into debt
by requesting a loan from a federal bank

Answers

Answer:

by reducing public goods and services

Explanation:

If a local government wants to lower taxes, it would need to balance its budget by reducing public goods and services, as taxes are the primary source of revenue for the government. By lowering taxes, the government is reducing its revenue, which means it needs to reduce its expenditures to balance the budget.

Increasing public goods and services would have the opposite effect, as it would require more spending and increase the budget deficit. Going into debt or requesting a loan from a federal bank may provide temporary relief, but it would not be a sustainable solution in the long run, as it would increase the government's debt and interest payments.

Therefore, the most effective way for a local government to lower taxes while balancing its budget would be to reduce public goods and services, while still providing essential services and maintaining a healthy level of government investment in the community.

Which of these tools or constructions is used to inscribe a square inside a circle? A. Parallel line through a point B. Equilateral triangle C. Perpendicular bisector D. Rotational symmetry

Answers

Answer:d

Explanation:

ask your teacher

The tools or constructions is used to inscribe a square inside a circle is an Equilateral triangle. Thus the correct option is B.

What is an Equilateral triangle?

An equilateral triangle is one with equal-sized sides on each side and angles that are all up to 60 degrees in length. Here, the three internal angles are all congruent and each measures 60 degrees.

Six equilateral triangles are the necessary tools or constructs to inscribe a hexagon inside of a circle. You can make six triangles if you draw a hexagon inside of a circle and add radii to each of its corners.

The fact that each triangular center of an equilateral triangle is the same as its centroid suggests that the equilateral triangle is the only triangle without an Euler line linking some of the centers.

Therefore, option B is appropriate.

Snake Story
Becky moved off of the porch slowly, backing through the door and into the house. She slammed the sliding glass door shut and stood for a moment, relieved to have something solid between her and the snake on the porch.
The glass was cool under her hands despite her pounding heart. She tried to slow her breathing. She was safe, at last, inside. Or was she? How had that snake gotten into the screened-in and walled-up back porch. If it could get in there, it's possible it could get inside where she was as well.
Becky wasn't someone who was normally skittish about wild things. She'd handled snakes before, picked up lizards many times, caught frogs in the garage and let them go. But snakes seemed to always catch her off guard. They would turn up when least expected. She would see them out of the corner of her eye and just the surprise of it would make her jump; her adrenalin would pump, her heart would thump, and her panic would take over.
What was she going to do? She couldn't just stand there waiting for the snake to decide to leave. What if it were venomous? It didn't look like a viper, but it could be. She would need to get out there soon to water the plants.
"What this requires is some advanced planning," she said out loud to her cat, Louie. "And, I will probably have to go 'once more into the fray' kitty," she said, looking in the cat's direction for emphasis.
"First things first, though," she said. The cat meowed back. It often did that, having become used to being talked to. "Let's look that fellow up," Becky said walking to her bookshelf.
"Let's see, snakes," she said, thumbing through her reptile and amphibian identification book. "It's brown and gray, with some black. With a pattern that looks ... there it is," she said thumping the page so hard that Louie jumped. "Not venomous," she said, triumphantly.
"It's an oak snake, Louie," she returned the book and strode over to her closet. "Not venomous, but I am still not taking chances," she said.
She reached into the closet and pulled out her heaviest jacket. It was lined and stuffed thick with lots of padding. Then she found her mittens and a pair of rubber boots. She knew even non-venomous snakes would sometimes threaten to strike when scared. "And that threat would work on me," Becky said aloud again, though Louie had no idea what she was talking about.
"It's 90 degrees outside, Louie," she said, "so get the iced lemonade ready for when I return."
It wasn't much of a plan, but it was the best she could come up with. With her armor on, she was already sweating when she slowly pushed open the sliding glass door and stepped back on to the porch.
She was pretty sure the snake would slither away from her presence. She propped open the outside door, and hoped she could shoo the snake in that direction.
Sweat dampened her arms and collected on her face. She spread her arms out, and took a few steps toward the snake. There was so much for it to hide beneath. Becky regretted the rocking chairs and all the plant stands between where the snake was in the corner and the door to the outside.
At first it seemed like the snake was just going to remain where it was, flicking its tongue every now and then. Becky waved her arms, lunged in its direction, and stomped her feet. It sat there, coiled in the corner, as if perfectly happy to remain there. In a fit of desperation, she picked up one side of the rocking chair the snake was under and let it drop. The snake jumped, raised its head like it was going to strike, and then stayed right where it was.
"Snake," Becky said, "This is not how it works. You have got to go." The snake moved its head back and forth, swaying a bit, and that gave Becky an idea.
She had read somewhere that snakes can "hear" thanks to the ability to process vibrations through the bone in their jaw. This awareness of vibrations in the ground was one reason it was very hard to sneak up on snakes. She quickly realized that getting the snake out was going to be a lot easier than she had thought.
Becky turned on the radio she kept on the porch and lowered it to the ground, pointing in the snake's direction. She adjusted the controls so that the bass was as high as it could go. Then she cranked up the volume. She envisioned the snake swaying to the sounds of "Dancing Queen by Abba, and then leaving the porch and going far far away.
Coming back into the house she began peeling off the now damp armaments she had put on earlier. "Louie, there is more than one way to skin a snake," she said laughing. She watched as the snake uncoiled and moved cautiously in the direction of the door. Bending down to pick up Louie Becky sighed and stroked his head. "'Cause no one ever wants to skin a cat sweetie
The glass was cool under her hands despite her pounding heart. She tried to slow her breathing. She was safe at last inside.

It promotes fair trade in developing nations

The WTO primarily affects international trade by settling disputes between countries, promoting fair trade in developing nations, and removing limits on how goods are produced. It does not establish taxes or tariffs to limit trade, inspect food products, or require countries to set fair prices for trading goods. Thus, options A, C, and D are correct.

What is WTO?

The World Trade Organization (WTO) is an intergovernmental organization that was established on January 1, 1995.

It is the only global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations. The WTO aims to promote international trade by providing a forum for negotiations, monitoring national trade policies, providing technical assistance and training for developing countries, and settling disputes between member countries.

It currently has 164 member countries, which together account for 98% of world trade. The WTO operates under a set of rules and principles, including the most-favored-nation principle, which requires each member to treat all other members equally in terms of trade, and the national treatment principle, which requires each member to treat foreign goods and services the same as their own.

The WTO has been criticized for being too focused on free trade at the expense of social and environmental concerns, but it remains an important institution for regulating international trade.
