Consider the 3 questions found below concerning "The Vietnam Conflict: Two Views" for your initial posting in a discussion format (do not repeat the questions).
a. How do both interpretation differ? Explain.
b. Which interpretation do you find the most convincing-Rotter or McMahon? Why?
c. In your opinion, was the U.S. involvement in the Vietnam conflict necessary? Why or why not?

Answers

Answer 1

Both Rotter and McMahon have different interpretations for the U.S. involvement in Vietnam.

In Rotter's view, he believes that the U.S. made a huge mistake in entering the Vietnam War and that the U.S. tried to force something onto the Vietnamese people that they did not want, nor did it provide support for the nation-building campaigns they needed.

McMahon, on the other hand, saw it as mission in which the U.S. were helping the vulnerable Vietnamese gain the freedom and democracy that was rightfully theirs. I find McMahon's interpretation more convincing because it offers a positive interpretation of what could have been a disasterous situation.

In my opinion, it is difficult to say whether the U.S. involvement was necessary or not. On one hand, it is understandable that the U.S. wanted to convey their message that they would stand by a country they saw as vulnerable and in need of assistance. On the other hand, it was ultimately futile and caused a lot of destruction and suffering with little to no positive outcome.

Governor Robert Dinwiddie sent 21-year-old Major George Washington of the Virginia Regiment on a mission to confront the French forces.

Washington was to deliver a message from the governor demanding that the French leave the region and halt their harassment of English traders. Washington departed Williamsburg, Virginia in October 1753 and made his way into the rugged trans- Appalachian region with Jacob Van Braam, a family friend and French speaker, and Christopher Gist, an Ohio company trader and guide. On December 11, 1753, amidst a raging snowstorm, Washington arrived and was politely received by Captain Jacques Legardeur de Saint-Pierre at Fort LeBoeuf. After reviewing Dinwiddie's letter, Legardeur de Saint-Pierre calmly wrote a reply stating that the French king's claim to the Ohio Valley was "incontestable."

early encounters between american indians and european colonists led to a variety of relationships among the different cultures lew

Answers

The interactions and conflicts between Europeans and Native Americans in New England and the Spanish Southwest during the 17th century demonstrate how the relationship between American Indians and European colonists ultimately became antagonistic. This was primarily due to European expansion and intolerance of indigenous cultures, which prompted responses by the native populations.

While English settlers and Native Americans in the New England regions initially tried to coexist through trade and a common commitment to spirituality, the relationship quickly deteriorated due to sickness and other issues, which eventually resulted in the First Indian War.

what solution was provided by the missionaries to solve native hawaiian problems and rectify a crash in their population?

Answers

Native Hawaiian issues are resolved by the missionaries by converting them to a new religion and, more crucially, by allowing them to live on their land.

The missionaries placed a high value on the Hawaiian people's education. The chiefs, their aides, native spouses, and the kids of the foreign settlers were their first students. The missionaries initially gave lessons in English, but soon they began learning Hawaiian. They converted spoken Hawaiian to writing by the middle of the 1820s after adopting an alphabet. Then, in order to spread the lessons to a wider audience, they started printing textbooks alongside their ongoing translation work of sacred texts, primarily the Bible.

The missionaries could instruct the native populace in reading, writing, mathematics, and religion after materials were written in Hawaiian. The missionary teachers began exchanging copies of religious books for basic food items in 1824, and two Hawaiian newspapers were created in 1834.

By 2006, the city limits extended to the cattle company's feedlot. About 10,000 people lived within three miles of the cattle-feeding operation. The cattle company land is outside the city limits and no zoning ordinance applies. The cattle company uses the best and most sanitary feed lot procedures, including chemical sprays, to keep down flies and odors and frequently removes manure. Despite these measures, residents of the city complain of flies and odors. An action has been filed by five individual homeowners who live within half a mile of the cattle company feedlot. Flies in the area are five to ten times more numerous than in other parts of the city, and extremely obnoxious odors are frequently carried by the wind to the plaintiffs' homes. The odors do not affect any other part of the city. The flies and odors are a substantial health hazard.

The cattle company may argue that they are using the best and most sanitary feedlot procedures, including chemical sprays and frequent removal of manure, and that they are not in violation of any zoning ordinances.

However, the plaintiffs may argue that the cattle company's operation is still causing a public nuisance and that the court should order the company to take further measures to mitigate the flies and odors. how did yellow journalism help start the spanish american war?

Answers

Answer:

Yellow journalism played a significant role in creating the conditions that led to the Spanish-American War in 1898. At the time, newspapers in the United States were engaged in a fierce competition for readership, and sensationalistic stories that emphasized violence, sex, and scandal were seen as a way to boost sales.

One of the most prominent examples of this style of journalism was the coverage of the conflict in Cuba between Spanish colonial forces and Cuban rebels seeking independence. American newspapers, led by William Randolph Hearst's New York Journal and Joseph Pulitzer's New York World, printed exaggerated and often fabricated stories of Spanish atrocities against the Cuban population. These stories played on Americans' sympathies for the Cuban rebels and created a sense of outrage and a desire for intervention.

The most famous example of this kind of reporting was the "De Lome letter," in which Spanish ambassador to the United States, Enrique Dupuy de Lome, criticized President William McKinley in a private letter that was stolen and published by Hearst's newspaper. The letter was seen as an insult to American honor and helped to further inflame public sentiment against Spain.

The sinking of the USS Maine in Havana harbor in February 1898, which killed 266 American sailors, was also heavily covered by the yellow press. Although the cause of the explosion that sank the ship was never definitively determined, many newspapers blamed it on Spain, creating a frenzy of jingoistic sentiment and calls for war.

Overall, yellow journalism helped to create an atmosphere of sensationalism, exaggeration, and emotion that helped to shape public opinion and push the United States toward war with Spain. While there were certainly other factors that contributed to the outbreak of the conflict, the role of the press in shaping public opinion cannot be overstated.
