As you read The Giver, did you think of Jonas as a hero? At what point did he seem heroic to you, if at all? You may answer these questions differently than other readers of the novel, and that’s okay.
Think about the most important events in The Giver, and try to identify at least one scene that matches up with a stage or event in the hero’s journey. Locate your file containing this module’s journal assignment, paste the prompt below at the end of the document, and label the entry with this lesson’s title. Then, type a response to the prompt.
Describe a scene from The Giver that helps support the claim that the novel is a story about a hero on a quest. If you think The Giver is not that kind of story, describe a scene that makes the plot seem different from a hero’s journey
Answer: Jonas was a hero, he proved he was a hero when he risked his own life to try and take his friend, the girl he loved and a baby Gabriel that he had grown quite attached to. Jonas escaped right away. At the evening meal, his father tells the family that he tried to see if Gabriel could sleep through the night at the Nurturing Center, and that the new child had cried all night. Jonas’s father voted to release him the next day. Jonas wouldn't allow that to happen, so he takes some leftover food and his father’s bicycle and makes his way to else where.

In 1886, automobiles made their first appearance. In this case, cars have been around for 134 years! However, using a car for this long means a person found ways to save an endangered person and transport produce fast. Due to this, they cause an excessive amount of responsibility. With that, realize that safety is important while driving. Automobiles continue to save people’s lives and transport food fast. Consider the issue of owning a car and recognize the safety that comes along with it.
Owning a car is an enormous responsibility
An individual has the authority to control what will happen next. "With great power comes great responsibility" (Stan Lee) this quote means that if set with the ability to have or do something expect the responsibility that comes with this power. If given a car (power) one must face the responsibility of paying for a car monthly. Naturally, being responsible for a car is an unspoken rule. However, taking care of a car can take an inconsiderable sum of money. For instance, car insurance (Car insurance is putting a payment for financial protection just in case of any accidents), rotating tires (rotating tires is putting the front tires to the back, and the back tires to the front because driving consists of using the two front tires constantly.), getting gas, and paying for when the car fails to correspond can be a big responsibility. In other words, all of these costs can vary around $1,939. If not properly taken care of it will increase the risk of not being safe in the vehicle (another word for automobile or car). To sum it all up, whatever decision made except the outcome that comes along.
Safety is the number one priority
Without any exceptions, one shall never be too cautious. According to the quote "Always be safe than sorry" by Samuel Lover, he seems to agree. The meaning of this quote means to be careful now so problems will not worsen later. No matter what, if a flashing light goes off in the dashboard (it's located in front of the passenger and driver.) take the chance to take a look at what is going on and do not ignore the problem. One should always be careful, even when driving. As reported, an article states "In 2019, an estimated 38,800 people lost their lives to car crashes." Things that can cause these deaths are driving over the speed limit, a car malfunction (break down or not functioning correctly), becoming distracted, and bad weather. Of course, preventing these accidents can be easy. To stop these things from happening, stop speeding, take cars to get a check-up, stay off any electronics, and check the weather before driving. In closing, one should become mindful when a warning occurs. (For example, smoke under the roof of a car).
This bar graph shows the number/ages of deaths in the USA. Being under 16 is the lowest possibility of dying and it seems the death count is around 15. The highest death age is between 25-29 and the death count is around 8500.

Winter
Winter may be a beautiful season visually, but it is not the easiest to experience. During winter the ground lies cold and hard beneath the surface of snow and frost. The sleeping trees shed all their leaves and appear brown and bare. The dry stems of dead plants rustle in the strong winds. The air turns bitterly cold as the sunlight fades and nights become longer. Most animals hibernate during the season, while others seek shelter in warm places. As a result, you see fewer wild animals in the winter.

"Say to them,

Even if you are not ready for day

You will be right.
For that is the hard home-run.
Live not for battles won.
Live not for the-end-of-the-song.
Live in the along."
Answer: In "Speech to the Young: Speech to the Progress Toward" by Gwendolyn Brooks, the theme/central idea is that young people should make a change.
Explanation: There is a summary about it from a website I read and I have it pasted below.
Source: https://interestingliterature.com/2023/01/gwendolyn-brooks-speech-to-the-young-summary-analysis/
"This short lyric poem (a poem in which a speaker discusses their thoughts and feelings) comprises just two stanzas. In the first stanza, Brooks urges young people to push for change, even in the face of resistance from those people who would attempt to keep them down. In a memorable image, Brooks likens such naysayers (or ‘sun-slappers’, as she describes them) to people who are reluctant for it to be daytime and want it to remain night.
Brooks tells the young that they will be proved right if they persevere and bring about the change they wish to see in the world. It is hard, but – in an image drawn from the game of baseball – she says it will be a ‘home-run’. A home run in baseball is when a batter hits a fair ball and scores, without being put out. Brooks is telling the young that they can achieve what they set out to do and emerge triumphant, like a better scoring a home run.
In the poem’s second, shorter stanza, Brooks tells the young not to rest on their laurels, or the laurels of those generations who have gone before. In other words, don’t think that society has reached a point where all battles worth fighting have already been won and there is no more progress to be made.
Instead of living with only the end-goal in focus, they should enjoy the process of bringing about change: the struggle, the fight, the friendships forged along the way, the gradual shift towards a better world. She likens this, memorably, to living ‘in the along’: that is, living from one day to the next, and living in the moment and for the moment."
Hope this helps you
Answer:
The theme of the poem "Say to them" by Gwendolyn Brooks is that it is important to keep going, even when things are tough. The poet uses a variety of literary devices to convey this theme, including:
Imagery: The poet uses vivid imagery to paint a picture of the challenges that life can present. For example, she refers to the "down-keepers" who try to keep people down, the "sun-slappers" who try to discourage people from pursuing their dreams, and the "self-soilers" who give up on themselves.
Repetition: The poet repeats the phrase "even if you are not ready for day, it cannot always be night" to emphasize the importance of perseverance.
Rhetorical questions: The poet asks a series of rhetorical questions to challenge the reader's thinking. For example, she asks "Live not for battles won. Live not for the-end-of-the-song. Live in the along." This question encourages the reader to think about the importance of living in the present moment and not just focusing on the future.
The poet's message is that it is important to keep going, even when things are tough. No matter how many challenges we face, we must never give up on our dreams. We must keep moving forward, even when we are not ready for the next step. We must keep living, even when it is difficult.
The poem is a powerful reminder that we are all capable of great things. We can overcome any obstacle if we set our minds to it. We must never give up on ourselves or our dreams.
