PLEASE HELP ME I REALLY NEED HELP
This passage is taken from a book that chronicles a man's exploration of Alaska.

(1)It was now near dark, and I made haste to make up my flimsy little tent. The ground was desperately rocky. I made out, however, to level down a strip large enough to lie on, and by means of slim alder stems bent over it and tied together soon had a home. While thus busily engaged I was startled by a thundering roar across the lake. Running to the top of the moraine, I discovered that the tremendous noise was only the outcry of a newborn berg about fifty or sixty feet in diameter, rocking and wallowing in the waves it had raised as if enjoying its freedom after its long grinding work as part of the glacier. After this fine last lesson I managed to make a small fire out of wet twigs, got a cup of tea, stripped off my dripping clothing, wrapped myself in a blanket and lay brooding on the gains of the day and plans for the morrow, glad, rich, and almost comfortable.

(2)It was raining hard when I awoke, but I made up my mind to disregard the weather, put on my dripping clothing, glad to know it was fresh and clean; ate biscuits and a piece of dried salmon without attempting to make a tea fire; filled a bag with hardtack, slung it over my shoulder, and with my indispensable ice-axe plunged once more into the dripping jungle. I found my bridge holding bravely in place against the swollen torrent, crossed it and beat my way around pools and logs and through two hours of tangle back to the moraine on the north side of the outlet,—a wet, weary battle but not without enjoyment. The smell of the washed ground and vegetation made every breath a pleasure, and I found Calypso borealis1, the first I had seen on this side of the continent, one of my darlings, worth any amount of hardship; and I saw one of my Douglas squirrels on the margin of the grassy pool. The drip of the rain on the various leaves was pleasant to hear. More especially marked were the flat low-toned bumps and splashes of large drops from the trees on the broad horizontal leaves of Echinopanax horridum2, like the drumming of thundershower drops on veratrum and palm leaves, while the mosses were indescribably beautiful, so fresh, so bright, so cheerily green, and all so low and calm and silent, however heavy and wild the wind and the rain blowing and pouring above them. Surely never a particle of dust has touched leaf or crown of all these blessed mosses; and how bright were the red rims of the cladonia cups beside them, and the fruit of the dwarf cornel! And the wet berries, Nature's precious jewelry, how beautiful they were!—huckleberries with pale bloom and a crystal drop on each; red and yellow salmon-berries, with clusters of smaller drops; and the glittering, berry-like raindrops adorning the interlacing arches of bent grasses and sedges around the edges of the pools, every drop a mirror with all the landscape in it. A' that and a' that and twice as muckle's a' that in this glorious Alaska day3, recalling, however different, George Herbert's "Sweet day, so cool, so calm, so bright.4"

(3)In the gardens and forests of this wonderful moraine one might spend a whole joyful life.

1 A rare orchid found in northern, mountainous areas.
2Also called Devil's Club, Echinopanax is a large-leafed shrub that grows in moist, dense forests mostly in the Pacific Northwest of the United States.
3 Reference to Scottish poet, Robert Burns's poem that rejoices over the wide variety of positive traits in his wife.
4 Reference to a George Herbert poem that celebrates the glory found in nature and mourns the fact that it all must die.

In context, the image of the iceberg being born in paragraph one is meant to suggest

A. the deafening nature of the ice scraping against other bergs
B. that natural processes take time and are worthy of wonder
C. the pain experienced upon witnessing the effects of climate change
D. a complex scientific process of iceberg formation and separation
E. the new iceberg's helplessness against the turbulent waters

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

I would choose B, it makes the most sense.

Explanation:

Climate change isn’t mentioned in the passage, and the iceberg is “enjoying its freedom,” which creates a happier tone.

Answer 2

Answer:

In context, the image of the iceberg being born in paragraph one is meant to suggest B. that natural processes take time and are worthy of wonder.

The passage describes the writer's experience of hearing a thundering roar across the lake and then discovering that it was the sound of a newborn iceberg about fifty or sixty feet in diameter. The statement "rocking and wallowing in the waves it had raised as if enjoying its freedom after its long grinding work as part of the glacier" implies that the iceberg has been formed through a slow and arduous process as part of the glacier. The use of the word "newborn" further reinforces the idea of the iceberg being born or separated from the glacier.

During the previous year he had introduced Kahlo to a whole new world—the group that assembled weekly at the home of the Italian-born American photographer Tina Modotti.

Modotti became Kahlo’s role model. She had come to Mexico a few years earlier as the protégée of the famous American photographer Edward Weston. When Weston went home, Modotti stayed, photographing the peasants of Mexico and posing for Diego Rivera. . . .

Modotti was unlike any woman Kahlo had ever met. Independent, daring, revolutionary, Modotti befriended the young painter and sponsored her membership in the Mexican Communist party.

The One-Third Rule is a guideline used in lawn care that suggests never cutting more than one-third of the grass blade length at a time to promote healthy growth and prevent damage to the lawn.

The rule is based on the research conducted by Dr. James B. Beard in the 1950s on golf putting greens, which showed that removing more than one-third of the leaf blade at once could stress the grass and result in slower growth, thinner turf, and more susceptibility to disease and pests. The One-Third Rule has since been widely adopted by lawn care professionals and homeowners for maintaining healthy lawns.

Danae was imprisoned in a bronze tower to stop her from getting married or having children after the king Acrisius received a warning from an Oracle of Apollo that Danae's son would one day kill him.

The dreary prison was changed into a lovely, blossoming place when a god showed up in the tower and proposed to take Danae as his bride.

When Acrisius noticed the light coming from the tower, he ordered his men to knock down one of the walls. There, he discovered Danae holding Perseus, a baby, on her lap. He imprisoned Danae and Perseus in a box before tossing them overboard.

A fisherman named Dictys saved them and brought them to the island of Seriphos, which was ruled by Polydectes and where he desired to wed Danae.

Because Perseus had shielded her from him, Polydectes devised a scheme to get rid of him.

He requested that Perseus bring him the Gorgon Medusa's head as a wedding gift, and while knowing that it was impossible, Perseus consented to do so.

The gods Athena and Hermes, who provided Perseus the winged sandals, the sickle, and the shield, assisted him in his quest. They also provided him with directions to the Gorgon's hideout.

When Perseus arrived at the Graeae's cave, they gave him the magic bag and the Cap of Darkness.

which of the following is true about sales branches, sales offices, and manufacturers' showrooms?

Answers

Sales branches, sales offices, and manufacturers showrooms serve different purposes and have distinct characteristics.

Sales branches are separate locations of a company that are established in different geographical areas to facilitate sales and distribution of products. They are typically responsible for generating sales, maintaining customer relationships, and providing after-sales support. Sales branches are often equipped with inventory and sales personnel to directly engage with customers and fulfill their needs.

Sales offices, on the other hand, are usually established in specific regions or territories to promote sales and provide support services. Unlike sales branches, they may not have physical inventory or direct sales transactions. Sales offices focus more on sales coordination, market analysis, and customer support, often acting as a liaison between the company and its clients.

Manufacturers' showrooms are dedicated spaces where manufacturers showcase their products to potential customers and business partners. These showrooms are designed to highlight the features and benefits of the products, allowing customers to see, touch, and experience them firsthand. Manufacturers' showrooms are commonly used in industries such as automotive, electronics, and furniture, where product demonstrations and experiential marketing play a crucial role in driving sales.

Read this excerpt from "Mad Cow, Furious Farmer.” The disease was first detected in England in 1986, though some scientists think the very first cases started at least ten years before. Cows usually eat only grass and other plants, but farmers had been feeding them a meat and bone mixture that made the cows plumper. But somehow, at least one batch of the mixture had become contaminated with what was then an unknown killer: a prion. By 1993, British farmers were reporting up to one thousand new cases of BSE a week. Governments all around the world reacted by increasing testing for the disease and not allowing any cows to be eaten if they were at risk of having the disease. As sheep can also get a prion disease called scrapie, they were tested as well. Farmers were angry that they were losing their livestock, and nobody knew how to protect cows and people from the disease. Consumers were also in a panic when they learned about BSE, and for a very good reason: prions are infectious. If you eat a prion from a "mad cow” or sheep, you are at risk for developing a human version of BSE. The public felt betrayed that their governments had underreacted to the problem or covered it up. Eventually, in 1997, governments began to ban farmers from feeding their livestock high-risk meat and bone mixtures. With that ban, the epidemic quickly peaked, and by 2010 had largely disappeared. Over the years, half a million cows and two hundred people had been killed by prions. What is the main idea of this excerpt? Mad cow disease ended because of government bans on feeding cows certain foods, but people were angry that governments did not act sooner. Mad cow disease was originally caused when governments allowed for cows’ food sources to be contaminated, so people were angry at their leaders. Both farmers and customers had been aware of mad cow disease, but they did not think their governments should have done anything to stop it. Both farmers and customers protested to prevent their governments from interfering with the farming and selling of cows and meat.

Answers

The sentence that expresses how Odysseus' long absence affects Telemachus is: "One day, as he sat sad and disconsolate in the house of his father, Telemachus saw a stranger come to the outer gate."

This sentence shows how Telemachus is feeling sad and disconsolate due to his father's long absence. He is likely worried and anxious about his father's fate, which is why he has been sitting in his house feeling down. The arrival of the stranger at the outer gate gives Telemachus hope that he may finally receive some news about his father, and this is why he rises up and goes to the gate to meet the stranger.

The other sentences do not directly address how Odysseus' absence affects Telemachus. The second sentence talks about Telemachus' hopes that someone would bring him tidings of his father, and the third sentence describes his actions in going to the gate to meet the stranger. While these sentences are related to Telemachus' feelings about his father's absence, they do not directly express how it affects him emotionally.

tim O'Brien uses "Spin" to show the psychological toll of war soldiers. The constant exposure to violence and death, coupled with the need for psychological relief, left them jaded to the ideals of the war effort.

Describe the impact of war and conflict on a person or group of people in brief?

One example of the impact of war is the scene where the soldiers are listening to a speech by a general. O'Brien writes, "The general talked about freedom and democracy, about the honor of serving your country, about the need to eradicate evil and terror from the world. It was a fine speech. Nobody believed a word of it" (O'Brien 72). This shows that the soldiers have become cynical and jaded, and are no longer motivated by the rhetoric of their leaders. They have seen too much suffering and death to believe in the idealistic goals of the war.

Another example is the scene where the soldiers are waiting for a mission to start, and one of them starts playing a game with a grenade. O'Brien writes, "It was too quiet. The men were waiting for something to happen, and if it wasn't going to happen, they'd make it happen" (O'Brien 82). This shows that the soldiers are desperate for some kind of release from the tension and anxiety of waiting for their next mission. They are willing to take risks and engage in dangerous behavior just to feel something.
