The problems that schizophrenics have with memory and attention are most likely related to an increased tendency of having brain abnormalities in the ____.

Answers

Answer 1

Given what we know about neuroanatomy, we can confirm that the problems that schizophrenics have with memory and attention are most likely related to an increased tendency of having brain abnormalities in the prefrontal cortex.

What is the prefrontal cortex? The prefrontal cortex is quite simply just an area of the brain. This area, however, is responsible for plenty of functions and is essential to the normal everyday functioning of an individual

What does the PFC do?The PFC is known to play a role in the development of personality and the control of impulses through the process of rational thought. It is also said to have a hand in the storage and retrieval of memory, as well as the neural network essential for maintaining long-term attention.

Therefore, we can confirm that given the functions of this area of the brain, the problems with attention and memory often faced by schizophrenics have to do with their abnormalities in the prefrontal cortex.

Answers

W.E.B. Du Bois was a prominent sociologist who rejected theories of assimilation because he believed that they failed to fully account for the unique experiences of Black Americans. Instead, he focused on the concept of "double consciousness".

which he described as the psychological tension experienced by Black Americans who must navigate both their own identity and the expectations of the dominant white culture.

Essentially, Du Bois argued that Black Americans are forced to live with a dual identity, constantly aware of how they are perceived by both their own community and the larger society.

This concept of double consciousness is still widely studied and discussed in sociological circles today as a way to better understand the experiences of marginalized groups.

A chili pepper plant that produces fruit with a low level of capsaicin is grown in a season that experiences a drought. How might the drought conditions affect the amount of capsaicin in the fruit?

Answers

The drought conditions may cause the chili pepper plant to produce fruit with a higher level of capsaicin.

Chilli peppers, also known as chlli in Nahuatl, are cultivated for their the spicy flavour and are several types of the berry-fruit growing plants in the genus Capsicum, a member of the family of nightshade plants Solanaceae. Chilli peppers, which are herbs in the genus Capsicum, contain the active ingredient capsaicin. It causes scorching pain in any tissue it comes into touch with and is a chemical irritation and neurotoxic for mammals, including humans.

This is because capsaicin is a compound that the plant produces to protect itself from predators and environmental stressors such as drought. Therefore, in response to the drought, the chili pepper plant may produce more capsaicin in its fruit as a defense mechanism.

Consequences of Kristallnacht

Citation: C N Trueman "Consequences Of Kristallnacht"

historylearningsite.co.uk. The History Learning Site, 9 Mar 2015. 27 Apr 2021.

Kristallnacht – the Night of the Broken Glass – took place on November 9th and 10th 1938. It was in reprisal for the death of Ernst von Rath, the Third Secretary of the German Embassy in Paris, who was shot on November 7th by Herschell Grynszpan, a Polish Jew. The Night of the Broken Glass caused a great amount of damage to property with thousands of homes and shops being destroyed along with 586 synagogues. Joseph Goebbels said that “the patience of the German people has been exhausted” in an attempt to justify the destruction. However, not everyone was as enthused about the Night of the Broken Glass. Hermann Goering was angered by the widespread destruction of homes and shops. While he fully supported the attack against the Jews of Nazi Germany, he believed that an empty and gutted shop offered little to Germany whereas one that had been cleared of its Jewish owner but was left intact for a German occupier far better served the Reich. Goering was the minister in charge of the economy and saw the two nights of damage to property as a chance lost to the Nazis as no one would want a burnt out shop that offered little to anyone. He had been emphasising to loyal Germans the importance of not wasting anything and here was an example that clearly went against such a philosophy. On November 12th 1938, Goering called a conference to discuss the whole issue. In attendance, amongst others, were Reinhard Heydrich, representing the SS, and Joseph Goebbels. A secretary kept minutes of what was discussed.

Goering complained to Goebbels – who had celebrated what had occurred – that his position as the minister in charge of the economy had been made a lot harder by the destruction caused by Kristallnacht. However, all three men agreed on one thing – it was ultimately the fault of the Jews that the destruction occurred. Goering, according to the minutes, stated that “all measures (should be taken) to eliminate the Jew from the German economy.” Goebbels added that a law needed to be introduced that barred Jews from most beaches, parks, holiday resorts, forests and that there should be clearly marked “For Jews Only” parks and benches. It seems that Heydrich’s role in this meeting was minimal in terms of what he said. However, he was to make one comment, according to the minutes, that was to have a huge impact on the Jews:

“I’d like to make a proposal regarding police measures which are important also because of their psychological effect on public opinion. For example, anyone who is Jewish according to the Nuremburg Laws will have to wear a certain badge.”

On the same day as the meeting, Goering issued three decrees:

1. “All damage to Jewish businesses or dwellings on 8,9 or 10 November 1938 through the indignation of the people over the agitation of the international Jews against national Socialist Germany, must be repaired at once by the Jewish occupant or Jewish businessman. The cost of restoration will be borne by the occupants of the Jewish businesses and dwellings concerned. Insurance claims by Jews of German nationality will be confiscated in favour of the Reich.

2. The hostile attitude of Jewry towards the German people and Reich, which does not even shrink from committing cowardly murder, requires harsh atonement. Therefore I make the following order: the payment of a contribution of 1,000,000,000 Reichmarks to German Reich has been imposed on the Jews of German nationality as a whole.

3. From January 1st, 1939, on, a Jew cannot remain a businessman any longer. If a Jew has been a leading employee in a business enterprise, he will be dismissed after six months notice.”

Tectonic plate movement is caused by _____________

Group of answer choices

convection currents in the mantle

movement in the inner core

conduction in the mantle

oceanic plates drifting

Answers

The tectonic plate movement is caused by the convection currents in the mantle. Convection currents happen in the mantle, which is the layer of molten rock that lies beneath the Earth's crust.

The molten rock is continuously moving due to the heat produced by the inner core of the Earth. This heat moves towards the surface of the Earth, and then it moves down again once it cools off. This circular movement of molten rock creates a circular flow in the mantle. This circular movement of molten rock creates a circular flow in the mantle. As the molten rock moves, it drags the tectonic plates along with it.

The convection currents push plates apart and cause them to move away from each other. These movements cause the formation of new crust on the seafloor and volcanoes on land. The movement of the tectonic plates also causes earthquakes, as the plates rub against each other, or one plate is pushed under another plate. The study of tectonic plate movement is called plate tectonics, which has helped to explain the formation of continents, the growth of mountains, and the occurrence of earthquakes and volcanic activity.

Fond remembrances of happy days of family life intensified rather than alleviated her grief.

When someone experiences grief, it is natural for them to feel sadness and pain. In this particular case, the person's fond remembrances of happy days spent with their family actually intensified, or made stronger, their grief. This means that instead of providing comfort or relief, these memories of happy times made their grief even more intense.

This can happen for a few reasons. First, memories of happy times can serve as a stark reminder of what has been lost, making the absence of their loved ones even more painful. Second, these memories may bring up feelings of longing and nostalgia, causing the person to yearn for the past and wish for a return to happier times. Finally, it is possible that the person may feel guilty for experiencing moments of happiness or joy amidst their grief, which can intensify their feelings of sadness and loss.

Overall, in this situation, the fond remembrances of happy days of family life only served to make the person's grief stronger, rather than providing any sense of relief or comfort.

Answers

The fishing technique called bottom trawling causes significant ecosystem damage by destroying ocean bottom habitat and increasing bycatch of unmarketable fish. This method involves dragging a large net along the ocean floor, scooping up anything in its path.

Unfortunately, this indiscriminate approach results in damage to sensitive marine environments, including coral reefs and seagrass beds, which can take decades or even centuries to recover. Furthermore, bottom trawling often results in the unintentional capture of non-target species, which are commonly referred to as bycatch. Bycatch includes juvenile fish, sharks, and other marine animals that are either too small or undesirable for commercial sale.

As a result, many of these animals are discarded back into the ocean, dead or dying, which further exacerbates the negative impacts of this fishing technique on marine ecosystems. Although other fishing techniques, such as purse-seining and driftnetting, can also have negative impacts on the environment, bottom trawling is widely considered to be one of the most harmful practices and is the subject of significant conservation efforts aimed at reducing its impact on the world's oceans.

This method is often used to target bottom-dwelling fish, such as cod and shrimp, but its effects on the ocean ecosystem can be severe and long-lasting.
