what conclusions can you draw about the growth of slavery in the United States?

Answers

This research note describes the growth of the slave population in the United States and develops several new measures of its size and growth, including an estimate of the total number of slaves who ever lived in the United States. Estimates of the number of births and slave imports are provided in ten-year increments between 1619 and 1860 and in one-year increments between 1861 and 1865. The results highlight the importance of natural increase to the rapid growth of the U.S. slave population and indicate that approximately 10 million slaves lived in the United States, where they contributed 410 billion hours of labor. A concluding discussion highlights a few descriptive statistics historians might find useful, including the cumulative number of slaves who lived in the United States by decade and the proportion of slaves who were living at various moments in U.S. history, including shortly after the ratification of the Constitution in 1788 and at the start of the American Civil War in 1861.

states prefer what type of aid from the federal government

Answers

States generally prefer financial aid from the federal government, as it provides them with the flexibility to allocate funds according to their specific needs and priorities.

Financial aid allows states to address various issues such as infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and social welfare programs. It provides states with the freedom to determine how to allocate funds based on their individual circumstances and policy goals.

It allows them to make decisions that align with their unique economic, social, and political landscapes. For example, states may choose to allocate funds to improve transportation networks, invest in education and workforce development, or enhance healthcare services based on their specific needs and priorities.

Financial aid also gives states the opportunity to leverage federal resources to supplement their own budgets, especially in times of economic downturn or emergencies. It provides a mechanism for sharing the burden of funding essential programs and initiatives, particularly in areas where states may have limited financial resources.

In conclusion, states generally prefer financial aid from the federal government because it offers them the flexibility to allocate funds based on their specific needs and priorities.

Financial aid allows states to address a wide range of issues and supplement their own budgets, fostering collaboration between federal and state governments to meet the needs of their respective populations.

which of the following was a feature found in both the putting-out system of manufacturing and the factory production of textiles?

Answers

One feature found in both the putting-out system of manufacturing and the factory production of textiles was the division of labor. This involved breaking down the production process into smaller, specialized tasks that were assigned to different workers, allowing for increased efficiency and productivity.

In the putting-out system, also known as the domestic system or the cottage industry, production was decentralized. It involved merchants or contractors providing raw materials to individual households, where the work was carried out. Each household specialized in a particular task, such as spinning, weaving, or sewing, and would pass the semi-finished product to the next household in the production chain. This division of labor allowed for specialization and increased productivity. Similarly, in the factory production of textiles, which emerged during the Industrial Revolution, there was a division of labor.

However, instead of work being done in individual households, it was concentrated in centralized factories. Factory workers were assigned specific tasks or operations, such as operating machinery, spinning, weaving, or finishing. This division of labor in factories allowed for greater efficiency and mass production of textiles.

Hi! The process by which the Supreme Court decides on a case-by-case basis which federal rights also govern the states involves the following steps:

1. Case Selection: The Supreme Court receives numerous petitions for cases, but only chooses a limited number to review. Cases typically involve significant legal issues or conflicts between different courts.

2. Briefs Submission: Both parties in the case submit written arguments, called briefs, presenting their legal arguments, relevant facts, and precedents supporting their position.

3. Oral Arguments: Each party has a set amount of time to present their oral arguments before the Supreme Court Justices. Justices may ask questions to clarify or challenge the parties' positions.

4. Conference and Deliberation: Following oral arguments, the Justices meet in a private conference to discuss the case and exchange their views.

5. Decision and Opinion Writing: A majority vote among the Justices determines the Court's decision. The Justice assigned to write the majority opinion drafts it, and the other Justices may choose to join, concur, or dissent with the opinion.

6. Opinion Announcement: The final decision and opinions are announced publicly, providing the Court's rationale and the interpretation of federal rights and whether they govern the states in the specific case.

what do marx and engels mean by commodification and alienation

Answers

Marx and Engels describe commodification as the transformation of goods and services, as well as ideas and people, into commodities that are bought and sold in the marketplace.

Marx and Engels use the term commodification to describe the process of transforming goods, services, and other objects into commodities that can be bought and sold in a market economy. In a capitalist system, commodities are produced for the purpose of exchange and profit, rather than for their intrinsic use value. This leads to the exploitation of workers who are forced to sell their labor power to capitalists for a wage. In this context, commodification also results in the dehumanization of individuals as they are reduced to objects or inputs in the production process.

Marx and Engels use the term alienation to describe the social and psychological consequences of commodification. According to them, alienation occurs when workers become estranged from the products of their labor, the production process, other workers, and themselves. Workers are not in control of their own work, and they do not own or control the means of production. As a result, they feel disconnected from the products of their labor and the creative process, which leads to a sense of meaninglessness and powerlessness. Alienation also occurs when workers are reduced to a mere factor of production and treated as interchangeable, dehumanized entities in the production process.

describe the signs to look for if you suspect a friend may be self-harming

Answers

May be acting different more depressed, hiding their arms or legs.

Answer:

Gonna answer this from the perspective of someone who is a former self harmer.

1. Withdrawl from social settings. (I stopped talking to friends / family around the time that my self harm was the worst because I felt like if I did that my secret wouldn't be exposed)

2. Long Pants / Sleeves when its hot out - maybe along with the claim that "Oh I'm always cold." (No. We aren't cold. We're burning up. But we can't risk someone seeing our arms / legs when we've been self harming)

3. More anxiety / depression / anger issues. (These are all heightened while self harming, and sometimes even for awhile after we've stopped.)

4. A change in sleeping / eating habits (I started to sleep and eat less, while also having days where all I did was eat because for the past week I only really had one meal)

This isn't a full list and obviously different signs present in different people. If you suspect a friend is self harming do NOT be confrontational about it. You can bring up the topic in a friendly way and if they deny it to you then don't press on. You can bring it up again, just try to keep it at least a week apart.

It's frustrating to deal with someone who is going through this, I know, but remember that they have feelings as well.

It's best to deal with them as you would a child. Take things slowly and don't get upset or yell when it comes to these topics.

But also - If they do open up to you about their self harm, do as they wish for you to. Don't tell a parent or a counselor even if that seems best because it can also make it worse for them. Respect your friends wishes and don't treat them any different. Just be there for them and support them.
