Think about how time affects the characters in the excerpts from "Zulma" and from "Piano Obsession". Write a response analyzing how the authors of each text use the passing of time to develop the points of view of the characters. Use details from both excerpts to support your ideas.

Answers

Answer 1

answer

In, these story’s time affected the characters. The story excerpt “Zulma” explained how a boy waited to play flute with his friend Zulma and while he waited his character was developed further while time was passing. The story “Piano Obsession” showed how a girl fell in love with playing the piano and as time passed she played more and improved her playing which developed her character more than before.

In “Zulma” the use of time passing in the excerpt developed the characters more and more as time went on.  Philippe’s character showed to be hesitant in sending a letter to Zulma when he moved away but he started writing the letter eventually but he wrote it slowly. This shows that he cared about what Zulma thought about him. Also, it shows that he cared about making Zulma happy because he practiced his flute whenever he could so that when she came to visit him he could play with her. You can see that in this piece from the text  “I must work hard,” Philippe told himself, “so that I will be good enough to play duets with Zulma when she comes to stay.” But his hands seemed slow and clumsy, and he was beginning to despair that he would ever be good enough to play with his cousin.” This use of the passing of time also showed that Zulma isn’t good at keeping her promises towards her cousin because she promised to go see him but she never fulfilled this promise. The time passing in this text shows many developments in characters.

In “Piano Obsession” the main character Reem is introduced to the piano by a girl at her refugee camp Raina. She fell in love with the piano and the sounds it made. As time went on she continued to play the piano. As she played the piano her character developed. The passage said As it listened, the piano made my life more equal to what I had hoped it would be. It became my playground, with notes flat as pastures I ran into, notes sharp as mountains I climbed up, and phrases spoken from atop mountains. The piano repaired my days like a sewing machine repairs a dress.” This shows that as Reem continued to play the piano and improving it shows that she loved to play because it made her feel more equal to everyone else and it made her feel free. This developed her character by showing that Reem, was not used to feeling this kind of freedom and fun. She liked the fact there were no rules to plating the piano you just have to play the keys “like and child, would”. There were many character developments as time passed in “Piano obsession”.

In conclusion, In both stories “Piano Obsession” and “Zulma”  the use of time passing developed the point of view of the characters.

Authors of Frankenstein, the fall of the house of usher, and house over the hill.

Answers

Answer:

These authors show a strong identification between the themes and stories presented in the Gothic novel and their own lives and personalities.

Explanation:

The Gothic novel is a literary strand that presents narratives focused on pessimism, negativism in relation to society, the escape from reality, opposition to materialism, the notorious, fantastical and supernatural environment and the occult and obscurities. this type of literature presents dense, heavy stories that evoke the worst of human beings.

This type of literature was widely explored by authors like Edgar Alan Poe and Mary Shelley, probably because they lived in a time when these themes were very common in society and influenced the way they lived. Thus, these actors had the attitude of writing about what they identified in their own lives and in their own environment.

An author may exaggerate detail in a story to create a particular effect.

Exaggeration is a literary device that is often used for humorous or satirical effect. It involves presenting something as larger, grander, or more significant than it actually is. Here is an example of exaggeration in a story:

"The burger was so big, it could have fed a small village."

In this sentence, the author is exaggerating the size of the burger to create a humorous effect. The reader knows that a burger could not actually feed an entire village, but the exaggeration adds an element of exaggeration and hyperbole to the story.

Another example of exaggeration might be found in a story where the narrator is describing a character's physical appearance in great detail.
