What were corrupt and negative aspects of industrial cities, and how did early reformers attempt to address those issues?
Answer and Explanation:
Industrial cities exploited workers and did not pay them fairly. Allowing them not to have enough money to have a good quality of life. This meant that workers had to live in maginalized suburbs with little structure. In addition, the workplaces were inhospitable and caused various damages to workers.
The suburbs grew absurdly and got worse and worse, crime in these places skyrocketed and many residents lived in a situation of misery, even though they were working in factories.
The early reformers sought to create unions that demand fair treatment and payment to workers, so that they could have a dignified life. In addition to looking for improvements in the workplace and labor rights.
Answer:

As well as unsafe living conditions. This was especially evident in the tenements in which many immigrants were forced to live in their own waste mixed with two or three of their neighbors simply because their was no room. Illnesses were more frequent in these areas and crime was an everyday thing. Laborers who worked in the factories were often subject to extremely unsafe conditions and incredibly low pay. Early reformers tried to stop this by creating labor unions, electing new officials, and building new homes for the immigrants to stay in and be educated in american culture and society so that they would fit in better,

Clarisse and Millard are two unique characters in Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" who are introduced in various ways. Their introductions serve to highlight the distinctions between their personalities and tale roles, which helps to establish a number of themes.
Introduction of Clarisse: Clarisse is first presented in the book as a young, inquisitive girl who later develops into an important character in Montag's life. She is shown as being perceptive, intellectual, and curious. When we first meet Clarisse, she strikes up a conversation with Montag and poses thoughtful inquiries. She is shown to genuinely care about people, the natural environment, and everything else. Her presence undermines Montag's perception of his life and the expectations of society.
Introduction of Millard: Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" does not contain a character named Millard. There appears to be a possibility of character confusion with those found in other literary works or sources. I'm unable to draw any comparisons between Clarisse and Millard as a result.

Why does Gothic literature focus on the past? What effect does this have?
Answer:
Explanation:
The term Gothic originates with the architecture created by the Germanic Goth tribes that was later expanded to include most medieval architecture. Ornate, intricate, and heavy-handed, this style of architecture proved to be the ideal backdrop for both the physical and the psychological settings in a new literary genre, one that concerned itself with elaborate tales of mystery, suspense, and superstition. While there are several notable precursors, the height of the Gothic period, which was closely aligned with Romanticism, is usually considered to have been the years 1764 to about 1840, however, its influence extends to 20th-century authors such as V.C. Andrews, Iain Banks, and Anne Rice.

C.

D.

Switch to LED Lights
by Serena Woods
LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) are the newest and most promising invention in the lighting industry. LEDs have many advantages over more traditional forms of lighting systems.
Conserve energy
LEDs generally consume low amounts of power to produce light. In contrast to other types of bulbs, LEDs are more efficient and therefore require less power to produce the same amount of light. The Center for Efficient Energy Consumption conducted a study which states that "LEDs reduce power consumption by more than 60% when compared to other forms of lighting."
LEDs also have a long service life. Frequently switching them on and off does not affect their performance. People do not need to replace LEDs for many years, unlike traditional light bulbs and tubes.
LEDs are more energy efficient. They have an estimated energy efficiency of 80 to 90%. This means that they use 80-90% of electrical energy, and only around 10-20% is lost and converted to heat energy. In comparison, traditional bulbs have an estimated energy efficiency of only 20%.
Safe energy
LEDs do not contain any harmful materials. They are 100% recyclable, which makes them easier to dispose of responsibly. Many traditional forms of lighting contain materials that can be dangerous. LEDs are a safer option.
Minimal disadvantages
Researchers have found that LEDs can have a negative effect on our health. They suggest that LEDs may cause headaches and affect our sleep. However, the many benefits of LEDs outweigh these concerns.
Make a difference
If more people switch to using LEDs, it will save considerable energy. So, do your bit and start using LEDs.
Answer:
D. Start using LEDs instead of relying on traditional lighting systems.

Seeking revenge in modern society is not noble, but may be honorable to ones self. One may seek revenge to get back at someone for what they have done when they have felt powerless within themselves such as getting mistreated or socially rejected. In modern society revenge is not recongnized as it was once before. Nowadays revenge is ones feeling of honor within and to bring a sense of closure. If a person were to take something from another person, the other person would most likey want revenge to feel like they have the power to inflict pain on the one that has inflicted pain on them.
It's not the best but I hope that helps :)
UPDATED ON NOT HONORABLE
In my opinion revenge is not honourable even if it has to do with sacrificing your family because no matter what, family always comes first. Revenge is the epitome of evil. No matter who is involved with the devious acts of revenge, it is still evil and dishonourable within yourself. Especially when family is involved, they should come first and not ones internal anger driving him/her towards bad acts to satisfy an empty feeling. One should always put others before himself in order to achieve real honor within himself and for others respect.

You are at the mall with your best friend. You go into your favorite store. Your best friend picks up a really cool shirt and quickly stuffs it in her book bag. She tells you that she does it all the time and has never gotten caught. You had been looking at the shirt for a couple of weeks. What do you do?
Answer:
Shoplifting is illegal and unethical. If you're in this situation, it's important to discourage your friend from stealing. Here are a few things you could do:
Speak up: Express your discomfort and tell your friend that what she is doing is wrong. Encourage her to return the shirt to its place.
Offer alternatives: If she really likes the shirt and cannot afford it, suggest other ways to get it, such as saving up for it, waiting for a sale, or looking for a similar item at a cheaper store.
Consider the implications: Remind her of the potential consequences, such as being banned from the store, fines, or even legal consequences.
Remember, it's essential to maintain your own integrity, even when faced with challenging situations. If your friend continues to shoplift, you might have to consider whether you want to continue the friendship, as her actions could eventually get you into trouble as well.

Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism. quotes by______
''Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism'', quotes by George Washington.
George Washington's quote, "Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism," serves as an admonition to protect against those who masquerade their personal interests as patriotism. Washington was an early advocate of the concept of liberty and individual rights, and this quote is a reflection of that belief.
Washington, who had a difficult time deciding whether to support the American Revolution or remain loyal to the British Crown, was acutely aware of the potential for abuse of the concept of patriotism. He was also known for his willingness to stand up against popular opinion and for his distrust of political leaders and their motives.
For this reason, Washington's quote serves as an important reminder to remain vigilant and question the motives of those who claim to act in the interests of patriotism.
By reminding us that what is truly in the best interests of our nation is not always clear, Washington's quote encourages us to be thoughtful and aware of any attempts to exploit patriotism for selfish gain.

i) Do [p] and [b] belong to separate phonemes or are they allophones of a single phoneme?
If they are separate phonemes, cite evidence from the data to show that the two sounds occur in the same environments.
If they are allophones of a single phoneme in complementary distribution, explain the ways in which they are phonetically similar, and then describe the environment in which each allophone occurs.
ii) Do you expect your conclusions from i) to apply to the following pairs: [t] and [d]; [k] and [g]; [kw] and [gw]; [tʃ] and [dʒ]; and [s] and [z]? Explain. Do the conclusions from i) apply to these other pairs, or not? If they do, provide a general statement that covers all the pairs you have examined.
In order to make a general statement that covers all the pairs, we would need to analyze their distribution and occurrence in the language.
How to examine the status of voiced and voiceless consonants?Based on the provided data from Passamaquoddy, we can analyze the voiced and voiceless consonants to determine if they belong to separate phonemes or if they are allophones of a single phoneme.
i) For the [p] and [b] sounds, we need to determine if they are separate phonemes or allophones. We can examine their distribution and see if they occur in the same environments.
Based on the given data, we can observe that [p] occurs in words like "pak" (fib), "padazikhal" (he makes him choke on smoke), and "ptəgwap" (bag). On the other hand, [b] occurs in words like "keguw" (all day), "wabɛjidʒik" (white men), and "hustiwin" (host).
Since [p] and [b] occur in distinct environments and are not found in minimal pairs (words that differ only by one sound, like "pat" vs. "bat"), we can conclude that [p] and [b] are separate phonemes in Passamaquoddy.
ii) Regarding the other pairs: [t] and [d], [k] and [g], [kw] and [gw], [tʃ] and [dʒ], and [s] and [z], we cannot assume that the conclusions from i) automatically apply to these pairs. Each pair needs to be examined separately based on the data provided.
In order to make a general statement that covers all the pairs, we would need to analyze their distribution and occurrence in the language. Without specific data for each pair, we cannot make a conclusive statement about their phonemic status in Passamaquoddy.

what has caused the English spoken today to be different from the English spoken in earlier centuries.
OVER 100 WORDS
Answer: Various factors
Explanation: Evolution of languages is a complicated and yet fascinating subject. Many times, the pronunciation or spelling of words is changed gradually, until it becomes an entirely new word. Another factor is likely geography. England is close to other countries, while America, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa are farther away and more isolated (especially in earlier centuries) so they have a tendency to develop regional dialects and accents that gradually change the English language. A further reason is historical event. A notable example of this is the Battle of Hastings, where a Norman (basically French) king came to rule over England, and thus brought many words with him that are still used today, like beef (from Old French boef). It Romanticized parts of the language as well. Another factor is technology. When the printing press was invented in Germany in the 1400's, the Germans had no letter block for the English "þ" (called thorn, pronounced like "th"), so they simply placed the closest letter they did have, a "y".
(you don't need to copy and paste this. If you look, there's a lot more examples than this.)

Helping your Audience
When giving a speech, the first thing to do is decide your purpose. Your purpose will pick how you convey either facts or opinions. Next, consider how knowledgeable the audience is about the topic. If your audience does not know a lot, you will have to explain more. Finally, decide the dication you should use to talk to your audience so they will understand you.
Writing the Draft
Writing a draft can be helpful to the speaker. However, the draft does not help the audience. The audience will not see the draft, so the grammar will not affect them as long as the speech still conveys the same information.
