Which two shades did odysseus speak to before encountering tiresias in the land of the dead?
In Homer's epic poem, "The Odyssey," Odysseus speaks to two shades before encountering Tiresias in the land of the dead. The two shades he speaks to are his mother, Anticlea, and the prophet, Teiresias.
When Odysseus arrives in the land of the dead, he first encounters his mother, Anticlea. She had passed away while he was on his journey. Odysseus is filled with grief and speaks to her, seeking information about his family and home. Anticlea tells him about the current state of affairs in his household and the challenges he faces upon his return to Ithaca.
After speaking with his mother, Odysseus seeks the advice of the blind prophet, Teiresias. He wants to learn how he can appease the gods and successfully complete his journey. Teiresias reveals to Odysseus that he must resist the temptation of the Sirens, avoid the wrath of Poseidon, and make sacrifices to appease the gods. He also foretells the difficulties Odysseus will face in the future.
In summary, before encountering Tiresias in the land of the dead, Odysseus speaks to his mother, Anticlea, to gain information about his family, and then seeks the advice of the blind prophet, Teiresias, who provides him with guidance for his journey.

Read the excerpt from chapter 17 of The Awakening. [Mrs. Pontellier] was somewhat familiar with such scenes. They had often made her very unhappy. On a few previous occasions she had been completely deprived of any desire to finish her dinner. Sometimes she had gone into the kitchen to administer a tardy rebuke to the cook. Once she went to her room and studied the cookbook during an entire evening, finally writing out a menu for the week, which left her harassed with a feeling that, after all, she had accomplished no good that was worth the name. The excerpt best demonstrates which emerging theme
The excerpt best demonstrates which emerging theme?
a.Women can feel a great deal of pressure to conform to society’s expectations of female duties.
b.Women who have the assistance of a cook are still responsible for the outcome of the food preparations.
c.Women can only be happy if they perceive themselves as successful at fulfilling their domestic duties.
d.Women who are expected to perform specific domestic duties should have access to reliable resources.
Answer:
c.Women can only be happy if they perceive themselves as successful at fulfilling their domestic duties.
Explanation:
According to the excerpt from chapter 17 of The Awakening, Mrs. Pontellier is narrated to be unhappy with some scenes at her home where she has to go chastise the cook, and even going as far as looking at the cook book, but still unsatisfied.
Therefore, the excerpt best demonstrates the emerging theme that women can only be happy if they perceive themselves as successful at fulfilling their domestic duties.
Considering the content of the excerpt, the excerpt best demonstrates the emerging theme of "Women can feel a great deal of pressure to conform to society’s expectations of female duties."
This is because the excerpt showed that Mrs. Pontellier constantly gets pressure from those around her on how to perform her duties as a female.
This is mainly on domestic activities like cooking which she had to study the cookbook and write the menu for the week.
These actions make Mrs. Pontelleir feel harassed and without any accomplishment, yet she is expected to do it to avoid backlash from those around her.
Hence, in this case, it is concluded that the correct answer is "Women can feel a great deal of pressure to conform to society’s expectations of female duties."

Answer:I remember the first time I rode a
bike. I grew up on the poor side of my town so stuff like this wasn't too common. I had been saving money for a while and I had seen a small bike being sold at a yard sale a couple blocks away.
When I brought the bike home, my mom got mad but I was more interested in the bike. I took it outside and just stared at it as if that would magically teach me how to ride it. Thankfully, a girl who lived 2 doors down saw me and asked if I knew how to ride. And I told her no.
Every day that week she would show me the basics of the bike and it's parts. When she thought I was ready, she told me to hop on. And I did. I was always scared of heights but this felt thrilling. Until I fell off.
My heart was racing and I started to cry. The thrill was gone and I went inside crying to my mom but she just shook her head. When my big brother found out, he gave a long encouraging speech and told me o get back on it. So I did.
It took me 4 more tries to finally get to pedaling. But I did and I got at least a couple yards out before wobbling again. Eventually I was speeding past everyone on my first little bike. I was always the happiest on that bike. It made me feel cool even though I was the last to learn in third grade.

A researcher administered a psychological test to measure aggressive tendencies in a group of 34 teenage boys. The test scores range from 5 to 50, with a high score indicating more aggression. The histogram summarizes the test results for these boys. Which two measures would be most appropriate to describe the center and spread of this distribution
Therefore, the two most appropriate measures to describe the center and spread of this distribution are the mean aggression score of 24.15 and the standard deviation of 11.52.
To describe the center of this distribution, we need to identify a measure of central tendency. In this case, the most appropriate measure would be the mean, which is calculated by adding up all the scores and dividing by the total number of scores. To calculate the mean aggression score for these 34 teenage boys, we would add up all the scores (5 + 6 + 7 + … + 50) and divide by 34. This would give us a mean aggression score of approximately 24.15.To describe the spread of this distribution, we need to identify a measure of variability. In this case, the most appropriate measure would be the standard deviation, which tells us how far the scores are from the mean.
To calculate the standard deviation of the aggression scores for these 34 teenage boys, we would first need to calculate the deviation of each score from the mean. To do this, we would subtract the mean (24.15) from each score.
For example, if we take the first score of 5, we would calculate the deviation as:
Deviation = 5 – 24.15 = -19.15
We would do this for all 34 scores, and then square each deviation.
Next, we would add up all the squared deviations and divide by the total number of scores minus one (since we are using a sample, not the entire population).
Finally, we would take the square root of this result to get the standard deviation.
Without going through all the calculations here, the standard deviation for this distribution would be approximately 11.52.

Which of these visual elements is most obvious in Andy Goldsworthy's Hazel Leaves?
a. line
b. shape
c. texture
d. space
The texture is the most obvious visual element in Andy Goldsworthy's Hazel Leaves. Here option C is the correct answer.
Texture is the physical or tactile feel of a material's surface or consistency, either by the sensation of touch or the visual appeal of an item's printed or natural features.
Goldsworthy uses texture in his artwork to convey a sense of emotion or ambiance to the observer. Texture can be used to produce depth, feeling, and meaning in art. It is a common visual feature in his art because he uses natural components.
Hazel Leaves are a kind of plant that Andy Goldsworthy used in his art. He arranges the leaves in a pattern to create an art piece. Hazel leaves are among the several natural materials that Goldsworthy uses to create his sculptures, which can be seen as temporary arrangements of natural elements that only last a short time.
Because the artist works with living material, his artwork is subject to decay and transformation over time, implying that his artwork is a fleeting expression of the natural world. Therefore option C is the correct answer.
