Jenna is studying biodiversity and the factors that affect it. She learns that many factors influence whether an ecosystem is healthy or not, and she knows that biodiversity varies within different ecosystems.

Identify and explain three factors that affect biodiversity.

Answers

Answer:

The factors can be sorted into two categories - biotic (living organisms) and abiotic (nonliving organisms).

An example of a biotic factor is invasive species (organisms non-native to that area). These species do harm to the environment it is in as it is not originally part of the community. A specific example of an invasive species are domesticated cats - they kill a lot of birds and organisms that have always been there, seeing a decline in the population of these organisms.

Abiotic factors include human activities such as deforestation, pollution; and natural factors such as natural disasters (floods, etc). These can wipe out whole ecosystems, kill off whole species, etc.

Now, open the Notebook tool () and brainstorm ideas for this topic. Ask yourself the following questions:

What is the purpose of recycling?
What are the benefits of recycling?
What, if any, negative effects does recycling have?

You did some brainstorming for the debate topic “Should recycling be required?” Write three one-sentence propositional arguments on the topic. Then write three oppositional arguments.

Answers

Answer:

What is the purpose of recycling?

The purpose of recycling is to reuse old things to prevent additional trash going into wastelands/beaches/where ever they end up.

What are the benefits of recycling?

When companies use old products (recycling them), it reduces the amount of new products needing to be made. So, rather than using a tree to make paper, they would use old consumer's paper instead.

What, if any, negative effects does recycling have?

I personally can't think of any negative effects. It's not even that out of the way of day to day life. If something's going in the bin, you might as well put it in a recycling bin (if it's recycle safe).

Should recycling be required?

Yes. I do believe recycling should be required. It will help minimize trash in the environment reusing the blastic bottles, paper or whatever instead of feeding it to the turtles. It's not too far out of the way either. As mentioned above, it can be incorperated into day to day life. By recycling, we are opening up new job positions that will protect the environment.

However, recycling can be bad for the "new product" industry because people are using less and less new products each year in favor of eco friendly/recycled material industries.

Okay, I know the question said write three opposing arguments to why recycling should be required, but... I can't think of anything else. Good luck with your assignment and let me know if you've got questions about my answer.
